– As the name implies, Applied Biochemistry embodies the theoretical and applied aspect of Biochemistry. The theme of the programme is derived from the concept that application of theoretical knowledge to provide required goods and services creates avenues for enhanced economic activity, employment opportunity and productive research. This programme was envisaged to train a work force amenable to the rigorous demands of industry and the challenges of research.
– The programme is structured to inculcate the fundamental concepts of Biochemistry and their applications in biotechnology, genetic engineering, medicine, agriculture, pharmaceutics/pharmacology and the environment.
– To this end, the acquisition of relevant practical and communication skills as well as analytical and quantitative aptitudes are emphasized to enable graduate employment in a board spectrum of scientific and managerial positions. Students also undertake courses in basic science, humanities, social science, computational and entrepreneurial skills. To prepare students for employment and industrial experiences, a Six-month industrial Work Scheme (SIWES) is undertaken by all students before graduating.
