Brief History

The Faculty of Biosciences came into being in the 2009/2010 academic session as a result of the splitting of the parent Faculty of Natural Sciences into two separate faculties, namely, Faculty of Biosciences and Faculty of Physical Sciences. The Faculty of Natural Sciences had existed since 1987. At its 139th meeting held on the 9h of December, 2009, the Senate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University considered a proposal from the Faculty of Natural Sciences seeking for the Splitting of the Faculty into two, namely, Faculty of Biosciences and Faculty of Physical Sciences and thereafter approved it. The Senate, after due Consideration, approved the splitting of Faculty of Natural Sciences into two as proposed by the Faculty. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.C.E. Egboka, at the commissioning of the reconstructed Chike Obi Building on Tuesday, 26h January, 2010 at the Science Village, officially declared the splitting of the faculty of Natural Sciences, as approved by the Senate. He further announced the appointment of Prof. F.J.C. Odibo as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences.
